The lights from the parlour and kitchen shone out
Through the blinds and the windows and bars;
And high overhead and all moving about,
There were thousands of millions of stars.
The moon lies on the river
like a drop of oil.
The children come to the banks to be healed
of their wounds and bruises.
'Come, children, put away your toys;
Roll up that kite's long line;
The day is done for girls and boys-
Usually I stay up late, my time
alone. Tonight at 9o I can tell
I'm only awake long enough
to put my sons to bed.
No Blues at Bedtime
Your rough tongue cleansing
What if I never awake?
My solace is in eternity to partake.
To exist in a realm of God, not of men.
Five minutes, five minutes more, please!
Let me stay five minutes more!
Can't I just finish the castle
I'm building here on the floor?
Gradually rocking, drifting, swaying
Your whole life viewed, through a sliver
Soft ocean waves gently tucking in
Cherished is, this final glimmer
