Biography of william beaird

I believe as Samuel Johnson that to write one book one must read a hundred. Agreat poet must master the language completely. One needs to learn the rules in order to break them. A poet is never a bad speller. He cannot be because he knows all words intimately: part of speech, however number of definitions, language(s) of origin, date coined, etc. The poet is a poet first and foremost. A lawyer or bank manager or nurse that is who they are; they may also dabble in verse and may be good but they are not poets. A true poet needs only pen and paper. He is a continual student; scholarly pursuit is never graduated from.
