A Minute Poem by Ellis Parker Butler

A Minute

Rating: 3.1

She plucked a blossom fair to see;
Upon my coat I let her pin it;
And thus we stood beneath the tree
A minute.

She turned her smiling face to me;
I saw a roguish sweetness in it;
I kissed her once;—it took, maybe,
A minute.

The time was paltry, you’ll agree;
It took but little to begin it;
But since my heart has not been free
A minute.

The poem was excellent as I started to begin it. Thoroughly amused as I finished, I realized all it took was a minute.

I do not see my comments yet, once again here: ONE: the central theme revolves around the fleeting nature of time and the profound impact a brief moment can have on our life. I do not see my comment yet

TWO: the poet experiences a transformative event that lingers in their heart long after the physical act has passed

A decoration of love promptly repaid by a minute long kiss: and afterwards probably with a loving that'll last a lifetime. A less than a minute good read. read.

TWO: on their heart. The brevity of the encounter contrasts with the lasting emotional effect, reflecting changing social norms of the early 20th century. It suggests a shift away from traditional courtship values toward a more modern and open attitude toward relationships.

ONE: It revolves around a brief encounter between two people. The poem captures a moment when the speaker kisses someone, and that fleeting connection leaves a lasting impact
