A man with a mind consumed by despair
Spewed venomous words, without care
He cursed his fate, his life, his all
And poisoned his future, with a bitter fall
His words, like acid, burned deep and true
Eroding hope, and all that was new
He spoke of failure, and darkest night
And brought upon himself, a sorrowful light
His thoughts were a prison, a cage of pain
A self-fulfilling prophecy, a life in vain
For words have power, to shape and to form
And his negative tongue, destroyed his norm
So let this be a lesson, to think and to speak
With care and with kindness, lest our lives we seek
To build up, not tear down, with words of grace
And find the beauty, in a smile on our face.
