I heard it slam the wind blew a gust

mountains are hard to climb
challenges hard to meet

but from the mountain top

I passed this way
I could not stay
but I'll be back
again some day

the poet held no malice
he was what he was
and he lifted his chalice

down a green valley where spring waters flow
across the broad swamp where few ever go

I wandered till sundown in search of the truth

my father sat beside me
as we headed down the river
he was not strong
but he was still a man
...

It must be sabotage
that came

in stealthy camouflage

I would refuse the siren's call,
the beckoning of an earthen wall.
Come, she sings, come with me,

every time love smiled at me
my heart would soon be broken

for every whispered promise made

the soul is the light behind the eyes
the invisibility that makes a human
it is consciousness
unfettered by imaginary fears
