Where I'M From (Re-Write)

I am from basketball, from Nike and swoosh

I am from flowers in our garden,

The sound of barking dogs.

I am from the tall, shady maples, the big falling leaves

I am from trips to the beach, cackling laughter, from Roleys

And Patterson's, and Detherages.

I am from the know-it-alls and hard workers,

From shut-your-mouth and clean it up.

I am from Sunday school class,

With animals loading 2 by 2.

I am from Corbett and Chamberlains,

Stir-fry and watermelons,

From the Great Grandpa leaving Georgia to Oregon,

To build with the Corp, the roads that we travel.

From the Grandma at 16 that gave birth to my mother.

I am from boxes of pictures, put on a shelf,

Blowing out candles, pets long gone, trips to the beach,

And faces of those I love, memories that can never be replaced…

but passed on to those who will wonder…

Where was she from?
