John, I'm not sure what you're getting at. I don't like contemporary formal poetry because most of it seems reactionary, dated, and stiff, formal meaning a poem with traditional rhyme scheme and meter. I suppose any single line of free verse could seem to have a meter (a pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables) of sorts. but meter is usually there throughout the formal poem. Most of the bad PH formal poem writers can rhyme (who can't?) but they distort and lose the meter. In any kind of good poem, all parts move together harmoniously, like a tiger in its pelt.
