    2014 Wasafiri New Writing Prize

    The prize is open to anyone worldwide who has not published a complete book.
    Three categories: Poetry, Fiction and Life Writing.
    Fees: £6 for one category, £10 for two categories and £15 for three categories.
    To enter, simply fill in the entry form and send it to us with your entry and fee in UK Sterling.
    The closing date is 5pm GMT on 25 July 2014.
    A maximum of 5 poems can be entered and the word limit for Fiction and Life Writing is 3000. Other terms and conditions apply.
    £300 will be awarded to the winner in each category and their work will be published in Wasafiri.

    Our judges this year are:
    Susheila Nasta MBE (Chair) Editor of Wasafiri and Professor of Modern Literature at the Open University
    Bidisha Writer and broadcaster who has published with many leading newspapers and presented on the BBC
    Inua Ellams Award-winning poet, playwright and performer who has appeared both nationally and internationally
    Monique Roffey Award-winning writer and memoirist, author White Woman on the Green Bicycle and Archipelago

    The Bigger Picture - Reflections on the Great War

    Closing date: 23rd August 2014.
    Prizes: First Prize - £50, Second Prize - £30, Third Prize - £20.
    Entry fee: £2 per poem
    This year marks the centenary of the outset of the Great War and entries are invited of short works of poetry written in response to any work of art associated with World War One. " Work of art" in this context can be a painting, a song, a poem, even a film or a soundtrack to a film. The interpretation of the term is entirely up to the entrant. Maximum lines-50.

    Emerging Voices Fellowships

    Fellowships of $1,000 each are given annually to emerging poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers who lack access to financial and creative support. Each fellow participates in an eight-month mentorship in Los Angeles with a professional writer, as well as classes at the UCLA Extension Writers' Program, public readings, and other programming. Housing is not provided. Writers who do not have significant publication credits, are not enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate writing program, and do not hold a graduate writing degree are eligible. Submit up to 10 pages of poetry or 20 pages of prose, a curriculum vitae, a federal tax return summary, and at least two letters of recommendation with a $10 entry fee by August 11.
