    A two- to six-week residency at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, Kentucky, will be given annually to a poet, a fiction writer, or a creative nonfiction writer. The resident will also receive a $500 stipend and lodging in a private cottage, and will be required to give one public reading or discussion during the residency. Submit a writing sample of 10 to 20 pages, a letter of intent, and a curriculum vitae by December 15. There is no application fee. Visit the website for complete guidelines.

    Four prizes of $500 each are given annually for a poetry collection, a first novel, a book of fiction, and a book of nonfiction (including creative nonfiction) by an African American writer published in the United States during the previous year. The awards honor books that depict the " cultural, historical, and sociopolitical aspects of the Black Diaspora." Publishers may nominate books published in 2014 by December 19.     Cafe Writers' Open Poetry Competition

    Closing date: 30th November,2014.
    Prizes: £1,000, £300, £150, six £50 commendeds, £100 for the funniest poem not winning another prize, £100 for best entry from a Norfolk resident.

    Munsterlit Poetry Competition

    Closing date: 30th November,2014.
    Prizes: 1st prize of 1,000 Euro (on 7 October 2014 approx. USD 1263 or GBP 784) , publication in Southword Literary Journal, a trip to Cork, Ireland to read at the Cork Spring Poetry Festival, and a week-long writing retreat at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Second prize: 500 Euro, third prize: 250 Euro. Ten runners-up: poems published and receive Southword'’s standard fee of E30.
    Entry fee: E5 per poem, or E20 for 5 poems. (UK writers: £5 per poem, or £20 for 5 poems.) Writers from countries outside Ireland & UK can pay via Paypal, which will convert their currency to Euro.
    Winning and commended authors will be published in Southword journal. This year's judge is poet Matthew Sweeney.
