As fleeting as the swirl of the smoke from my pipe
The passing beauty of flowers when ripe
Your sweet memory I struggle to keep
To hold onto even in my sleep
But the faithful worker turns his wheels
Over and over, my fallible mind at its heels
Grows dimmer and dimmer, pure robbery
Of my prized keepsake, your memory
The villain of this piece I'm uncertain
My mortal mind, all too soon's wilting
Rough rider time, speeding right ahead
Causing me to spill diamond moments from my head
The one thought though that gives me peace
Should it ever elude me, your memory itself longed for release
