Some of them now lay in the Town cemetery
Whilst some others with their wives grow old gracefully
Though the passing of time have left them feeble and gray
Time never waits for anyone it does seem that way.

I visualize them as they were some twenty years ago
But were i to meet them today perhaps them I'd not know
And me they may not recognize if by chance we did meet
We may pass each other by as strangers do when walking down the street.

The news became big news and travelled far and wide
That the great sporting hero had suddenly died
He was buried with honours and at his graveside
The club President spoke of one who brought honour and pride

I do not need to know of how marvellous you are
Or of the price that you paid for your new mercedes car
You are materially successful for to give you your due
But to your own higher self are you one who is true?

For every man a woman some have been known to say
But in some places of one sex there's a shortage or so 'twould seem that way
And in some Towns some men don't have a woman and in some Towns some women don't have a man
And some without a partner have to live out their time span.

We eat and we sleep and to the toilet we go
And what is wrong from what is right the most of us know
And the rich and the poor do breathe the same air
There are things in common that we all do share

In his early thirties he has turned thirty three
The one who hails from where the Tarwin flows into the sea
He left Tarwin Lower when he was nineteen
And some of the bigger World out there he has seen.

When i was in my late teens and that's going back in time
Jimmy Doyle the hurler was in his glorious prime
For Thurles Sarsfield and Tipperary a hero on the field of play
But now he moves more slowly since he too has had his day.

And without black or white feathers and gray overall
And far less gregarious as well as more rare
Yet their range overlap and territory they share,

Sliabh Luachra an old place of musician and poet
And old gaelic singers and others of note
From the Cork-Kerry border mountain Countryside
It's name and it's fame it has spread far and wide.
