Another warm day in the height of Summer and even warmth in the freshening breeze
And no talk of a cool change in the weather forecast a high today of 32 degrees
El Nino is around the thirsty fellow sucking up every dropp of moisture he can find
The water levels in the town reservoir are steadily

The men who built this City at rest forever lay
They worked hard for to support their wives and children and they earned their every pay
They are the unsung heroes and they lived it the hard way
And we owe them for the prosperity that we enjoy today.

They are out there on the street their bugles blowing
Though they do not have much to celebrate
It is the grog that causes them to revel
Their own nausea for tomorrow they create.
...

The poet is a singer his songs are in his heart
Yet in his own community not seen as an integral part
In the age of the celebrity he does seem out of place
And even in his Hometown his is not a well known face.

Goodbye to the hard working fellow he worked hard in his working life
He now rests in the town graveyard in the grave he shares with his wife
They had their rows, raised seven children but together in peace they now lay
Their grandchildren now have young children and life it goes on as they say.
...

We hear of successes and failures but it all comes to nought in the end
But as a human being it does matter if to someone in need you're a friend
By giving in ways we are receiving and if you can help someone in need
Then you've made your day a big success by performing a very good deed
...

In Point Smythe quite close to Venus Bay
From where i am now in distance far away
The kangaroos known as the eastern gray
In the paddocks graze in the gloaming of the day,

Few go through life without making a foe
And you cannot like everyone you do know
Though your friend tomorrow can be your foe today
And such is life as some are known to say.

Swollen by heavy rains that melt the mountain snow
Bank high by Millstreet Town the old Finnow flow
A river that will flow till the end of time
That has inspired poets to song and to rhyme,

Most writers 'twould seem have moments of self doubt
But they never go short of things to write about
And to become a top writer of one a big ask
And to succeed as a writer for many seems too daunting a task.
