Far south of the smoky and the noisy street
Where the creek from the hills and the river do meet
The gray butcherbird he is singing today
His bubbling song in the memory does stay

With shoulder length wavy hair of chestnut brown
Lovely Annie Kate the pride of the town
And lovely brown eyes and a beautiful smile
In her early twenties free of conceit and guile

The man who hangs in there when the going gets tough
In life may be struggling but is man enough
To face life's toughest challenge and still do his best
And not found to be wanting when put to the test

The air it has a wintery chill the sunless sky is gray
But a magpie on a wattle tree pipes in the park today
Not bothered by the cold breeze that blow down from the hill
He pipes his very finest the one with silvery bill

The truth goes with fact and fact never lie
In Nature for one to live others must die
The brown natural born killer with death in his cry
The eagle is soaring in the calm morning sky.

In the lounge room of her home in the morning her home overlooking the sea
A poem in her thoughts it is stirring as she enjoys her warm cup of tea
She looks out on the big white waves rolling the great waves that rumble and roar
That race up the beach in the full tide and crash against the cliff on the shore.

The spreaders of negativity now as ever are not rare
And that the World is ruled by negative people we are only too aware
With wars waging in some Countries and poor people to be found everywhere
And so much financial hardship and unhappiness in the bigger World out there,

He could not even hold on to his Parliamentary seat
And just like Paul Keating before him he cannot accept his defeat
Johnny Howard is now an ex politician yet in defeat one without grace
By his attacking of former opponents he is trying to save face

Of good and bad writers we so often do hear
But in the comparing of writers it should be made clear
That writers whether they do or do not make the grade
Should all be seen as valued members of the Wordsmith Trade.

Prolific but surely not terrific his comment I read
From people like him one doesn't get a swollen head
Sometimes the farmyard's top rooster doesn't have the loudest crow
