To be wealthy, famous and successful would be most people's choice
But on success and achievement there can be a price
Take for one Robert Kennedy one who knew of wealth, power and fame
Perhaps he would have been as well off without a cent to his name.

The one who never admires the wildflowers of the Spring
With Land for Wildlife he could never agree
He sees Land for Development as a better idea

'Tis sad to think that somebody's loss can be somebody's gain
That some financially prosper on others financial pain
And that many grow poorer for every new millionaire
In human society not all things are fair

Old stories he told and old ballads he sung
The Tans were in Ireland when old Dan was young
He was twenty six years in nineteen sixteen
And the bitterness and grief of war he had seen.

On bended knees he asked her to marry him a decade ago
But for marriage she was not ready her answer to him was no
When in truth she did not love him and with him she did not stay
And though now married with children to his second choice he thinks of her today

On the beach near where the Hopkins to the ocean crawl on this afternoon in May
Bright sunshine in a sky of blue on this lovely Autumn day
A small flock of greenfinches fed on scattered seed by the trees on the foreshore
Their kin birds I saw years ago in the woods of Claramore.

I never was much good at Gaelic Football or at any sports I never made the grade
Though I came from a place of famed sports people where for sporting successes there was many a parade
But I grow older without any regrets the past has gone the future lay ahead
I do not need fame but I would like more money and the thought of the reaper inspires in me dread
