A little boy walked up to me, his eyes so big and brown,
He held my hand so strong and tight and said, ''Hey, please look down.''
I picked him up; he hugged my neck; he said his name was ''Ray,''
And when he started talking, these are the words he had to say,
...

He was such a lonely man; his cell was cold and drear--
The winter sky shown through the bars and he knew his time was near.
The judge had said that he must die; what day he did not know--
But, the guards would take him to his death, at the fall of the very first snow.
...

While sitting all alone tonight here in this crowded bar,
I'm listening to all the poeple talk about how rich they are.
They brag about the homes they have and put on fancy airs;
But I know what they really are, just beer joint millionares!

Will You Be My Daddy On Father's Day?

A little boy walked up to me, his eyes so big and brown,
He held my hand so strong and tight and said, ''Hey, please look down.''
I picked him up; he hugged my neck; he said his name was ''Ray,''
And when he started talking, these are the words he had to say,
''Will you be my daddy on Father's Day, as I don't have one of my own,
All of the kids in my neighborhood have got a mommy and daddy at home.''
He told me that his daddy left, no reason did he give,
And his mommy had to go to work to make enough to live.
He said each night at bedtime that he would kneel and pray,
And ask the Lord for a daddy, these are the words that he would say,
''God, please send me a daddy this Father's Day, you see, I don't have one of my own;
All the kids in my neighborhood, have got a mommy and a daddy at home.''
Well, after my tears were all wiped away and I was able to speak,
He looked up at me with love in his eyes and wiped a tear from his own little cheek.
Well, he took me home to meet his mom and there I decided to stay
Though that little boy is now a young man, I just love it when I hear him say,
''I'm glad you're my daddy on Father's Day, now I have one of my own,
And I'm like all the kids in my neighborhood, I've got a mommy and a daddy at home.''
