Give And Take
Take an autumn leaf that’s turned to brown
Let it nestle in your palm
Take a homeless child that runs the street
and keep him out from harm
Take the pain you felt when you broke up
and the healing touch of time
Take the pride of toil in a sweaty brow
to wash away the grime
Take a bite of that old bitter fruit
which, you thought was sweet
Take a tree that’s lost its arms to man
to make his two ends meet
Take the earth displaced to dig a hole
too deep for you to see
Take the salt you kept to burn the wound
to make a savoury
Take the air you breathe through punctured lungs
and pass it through your heart
Take the vision through a misty night and
let your course, it chart
Take a stone that’s skimmed past waters edge
and honed itself so smooth
Take the lie out of those downcast eyes
and stoically face the truth
Take the worn out page from that ol’ book
And browse through its content
Take the map of life from times gone by
see where you came and went
Take the leaves that brewed your boiling tea
And pass it through a sieve
Take a walk back to the place you left
And vow to never leave
When you can take so much from life
A life, you’ve loved to live
Take all that’s offered on your plate
And from that start to give
