Best Friends

We were friends forever,
Then we started to grow.
We went to school and saw
That there was a lot to know.
We were still friends,
But we were growing apart.
We were starting to lose sight
Of one another’s heart.
Where once we had been
The best of friends,
Now we were realizing
We were reaching ends.
The end of childhood,
The end of bliss.
Between us was forming
A great abyss.
Many years later,
That abyss is still there,
But I know that deep down,
We both still care.
