To song and to music people dance along
And life all the better for music and song
When the musicians play and the singers do sing
Great joy to so many they always do bring

The sound of Grecian music where the Greek diners eat
From the Athenian restaurant it floats across the street
And a beautiful Greek songstress with the music sings along
One could listen to the music and the singer all night long.

These noisy Music Festivals where the rock bands are so loud
Where peace is quiet a stranger amongst the noisy crowd
I have been in such gatherings though I felt out of place there
A balding man near sixty with gray and straggly hair.

Without song and dance and music how boring life would be
From the cares of life these three can set the heart free
The music inspires people to dance and song
And you with the sad face you can sing along,

The music of O Carolan I have loved for many years
So sad and yet so beautiful it reduces one to tears
The poor blind harper of the County Meath is one many tend to under-rate
As a composer of beautiful music he is one we ought to celebrate

They should not have a Nationality on them to all people they should belong

It is true that music does cross the cultural divide
And those who claim it as their own have got it all wrong
Since music to everyone it does belong

Of their choice of entertainment they seem far from discreet
Their car stereos blaring as they drive on the street
What is music to them does not seem so to me
But then most of us look at things in ways quite differently

We are another year older and time is ticking on
And another Music Festival at Port Fairy has come and has gone
Great entertainment for young and for old and for those in their life's prime
And everyone there seemed to have a good time.

Is there laughter music, dance and song in the Parish of Millstreet
In the pubs of Cullen and Millstreet Town when friends and families meet
Or have things so changed in Duhallow far away
That I would feel a stranger there today?

The poetry some say is of another time
The poetry that is born of music and song
The poetry that to people who love rhyme belong.

I was raised on rebel music and rebel verse and song
That stirred up patriotic feelings but could not right a past wrong
And what now does it matter when all is said and done
