Life's But A Prom

We begin planning right from the start
For this one special night we hold dear to our hearts.
Our goal is to be the Belle of the ball,
To be the Snow White, the fairest of them all.

So we primp and we priss,
We pluck and we tease,
Diet and tan,
Hopefully snagging a date: the perfect man;
Finding "THE" dress is every girls' dream
But getting wrong shoes could cost you prom queen.

When this night finally comes,
We're all decked out
In our moment of truth,
Our one greatest night of our youth.
Squeezed into tight dresses,
Uncomfortable shoes,
We begin our parade into the school,
(All the while praying we don't look like a fool)
With our peers as our judges,
We hope to impress
(Secretly wishing to pass all their tests.)

After this trial our fun truly starts,
With picture after picture, joy fills our hearts,
All the while the music blares
As we dance and we dance, complete free of cares.
This night full of memories! This night of our lives!
But like all good things, it too, has to die.

This anticipated night is gone in a blink.
Now my dear friend, I ask you to think:
Was it all you imagined?
Was it less? Was it more?
Was it as important as you thought,
Or not worth it at all?

For young enough not yet to attend,
Too young to know about life, its beginning and end,
Take my advice for this night of all nights:
Dance while you can,
Make memories too,
Live this night for yourself, forget all the rest,
Popular is overrated; individual is best.
Always remember this message I send:
Make sure you regret nothing when it comes to an end.

Life's but a prom,
One big event,
We strive to be pretty,
We want to impress,
But in all the excitement we forget the real truth:
The only one worth impressing really, is you.
