P. Mihalic Poems

Rented like a tree subjected to high wind
Where elements of destruction scathed the land
Blackened and limp with terror he must stand
Looking at the force which rules mankind.
...

Floods caught him sadly, without words to speak
The misery and the gloom, when there's no light
In darkest mazes of a watery night.
To supplicate all efforts left him weak.

Rented like a tree subjected to high wind
Where elements of destruction scathed the land
Blackened and limp with terror he must stand
Looking at the force which rules mankind.
Susceptible to disaster left behind,
Gone were his schemes of agriculture planned.
His heart believed not what his eyes had scanned.
Nor could he grasp a reason with his mind.
Ever, he must try again and start
With little counter-force and steps so small
He hardly saw what he had done that day.
His house in pieces like a broken heart
He worked to clear the misery of it all
And sang, while carting all he had, away.
