Patricia Bradford Poems

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know
Oh Lord, what would have become of me
If you had not loved me so?
...

The World I said passed away today,
But I had really died along the way.
Prejudice, hate, jealousy, pain
Was not something I could explain.
...

How tiny you were when you were born.
With pretty long fingernails,
And so inquisive and bright.
I never wanted to let you out of my sight.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know
Oh Lord, what would have become of me
If you had not loved me so?

Where would my crushed heart go when delivered a blow?
Maybe to a comforting friend
But what would I do when that came to an end?

Who can give me back my mothers love?
Who can return me to my daddys knee?
Only you Lord, who gave it all to me.

Who can give me wisdom to see the Christmas tree?
And realize without you there would not be any me.

Who can hold me up Lord, when I can hold no more?
Only precious Jesus who will meet me at the door.

Who can look upon me when I am dead
And know the very number of the hairs upon my head?

Who can take the things we face down here
And turn them into victory
So we can face another year?

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know!
