Tonight, I open my eyes. Tonight, reality becomes real to me. Before now, there was denial, and I have lived there for so long. In his arms there was comfort and outside there was nothingness. Now oblivion seeps in.
I longed for him. I longed for him as a leaf searches for the sun to drink in its rays. I longed for him, and I am longing for him still. As I look upon his face while he sits next to me, I know he will never return. I search in this endless night.
Tonight, I acknowledge that which I have known. My lover's gone and I never felt him go.
And wherever he went, it's not going to make me need that love any less.

that (sometimes) painful moment of clarity, a subject of poetry that never gets old.
Strong poem.
