Avondliedeke 2

Daar ligt erbarmen in de avond,
een goedheid die geen grenzen weet;
Wie 's avonds geeft zijn hert, zijn handen,
Vergeet zo goed zijn eigen leed.

Daar ligt vergiffenis in de avond...,
O gij, die 'k 's morgens heb gehaat,
Ik voel, dat gij ter schemer-ure,
Weer schoon door mijn gedachten gaat.

En liefde ligt er in de avond,
Zoveel, dat ik de wrede man,
Die 't schoonste van mijn droom ontwijdde
Des avonds weer beminnen kan.
