Darkness - Poem by Nosheen Irfan

Within me I carry a world of darkness
It’s so deep that my mind goes blind
It makes me see things in a false light
And I feel like I have lost the fight
Open the windows, give me some light
To illuminate the depths of my insight

This darkness has taken up my entire being
It has occupied my body, invaded my soul
Let me rid of it, before it spreads around
And swallows up the beaming stars
Open the doors, give me some air
To expand the limits of my vision

O’ darkness, leave so I can find my way
In this world of thorns and indelible stains
Leave so I can spy the distant seas
And find far-reaching sight of a sailor
Leave so I can walk straight on my own
Without false hands to carry me there

We all experience this at times. We feel blindfolded and try to find a way out. The last verse is a ray of hope. (Report) Reply

Darkness... absence of light or excess of light! ... a nice poem of life, because it has hope n urge. it is hopeful that the darkness is not the absence of wisdom (Report) Reply

    Wow, another piece of excellence.
Wonderfully well written expression of darkness.
All of us have times when the shadow of our egos reduce the light of our soul to a small spark.
But that small spark never dies and is always ready flare up to a bright and lovely flame... (Report) Reply

This seems to me a desperate call of someone who wants to get rid of the deep rooted cobwebs stalling the light of self-realisation in life. Congrats for this poem's selection for the Day. Thanks. (Report) Reply

    Congrats Nosheenji, keep it up.

    A few words to Nosheenji.

Darkness is within and light too within,
Withing is the hell and heaven too within.
    Embrace what you want,
And get rid of the rest,
That's the way better than the best. (Report) Reply

This cry of a desolate soul groping in darkness is a heart wrenching cry! From a world of darkness she desperately seeks to find an escape! She sees the darkness looming around her as a formidable force, powerful enough to invade her whole being! Before that, she wants to escape into a safer harbour where no one can mislead her! Powerful words! Congrats for this being chosen as the poem of the day! (Report) Reply

In this world of great darkness,
we can easily get loss, unless we seek to follow
    the Light and that's Jesus!

The path from darkness takes much independence and courage, and there are many false paths where false hands will try to lead us. Excellent poem. (Report) Reply
