Don't Think When You Thrive! think think think

You’re going as fast as you can
You’re in the fast lane
You turn right
Not left
Someone dies
You escape, you survive!
You learn to forget
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

He wanted to talk to you
Something he wanted to say
So busy you didn’t read the sings
You just didn’t have the time
They find him later in his room
He had hung himself with his tie
Too late for regret – move on and forget
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive

You stay focused on the job at hand
You make yourself a name
You work all night
Till nothing’s left of your life
But a name on a plate
Your religion is corporation
You don’t ask why
You say you don’t regret
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

You went out with a woman
You had a b@stard child
She wasn’t your kind, left her behind
Don’t know what happened to them
You’re a doctor now
Respectable, married, raising your own
You learn to forget
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

His heart was gold
You pretended you were ice
He showed you his soul
His didn’t fit your plan… Not quite
You turn the page; he’s a footnote in your life
Years later; see him with his wife and kids at the mall
You have your career; getting laid tonight -nothing serious though
You say you don’t regret
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

To help the economy
We start a war
Martyrs become mortar for the cause
Freedom to have more than before
Prosperity is a state of terror
What’s in the national interest
Is always for the best
Can’t afford regret
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

Carbon emissions are on the rise
Things are getting warm all over
Melting the ice, more disasters
Don’t heed the global warning
The bottom line is what matters
If comfort is proportional to not knowing
You forget – why would you regret?
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

An epidemic strikes
They need medicine
You have it
Will sell it for a price
Your stomach is full
They’re starving
Hell, let them eat rice!
You switch the channel and soon forget
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

They need three jobs
To make ends meet
What you make before the night
They don’t make in a week
Inequality is part of life
It’s not your fault
You’re so damn bright
What’s there to regret?
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

You left me for him
Got married had a child
You’re a success story
With you six-figure income
You got everything; I have nothing
I forgot you showed me your teeth
Whenever you smiled
I wish - like you - I could forget
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!

It’s midlife; I’m forty
I should be having an overpriced cup of coffee
Listening in on the gay divorcees sitting next to me
Rehashing their version of ‘Sex in the City’
But I hunt and gather food for my modern-day family
And follow a list she made for the groceries
So I don’t forget – I have no regrets
Doing well is doing good, right?
Don’t think
Don’t think when you thrive!
