Forever Begins - Poem by Masharia kanyari

If last night I promised,
You- my hand in marriage
or bought you a diamond ring,
And swore to love you forever,
I lied,
Because forever begins today

If I was ever so kind, dependable- decent,
That you imagined ours being a lifelong friendship,
You let me in too far,
You got too involved,
That person was a front- he never really did exist,
Because forever begins today

If we formed an alliance last week,
Forever- we againist the world,
Now would be best you forgot it,
I am a man of no principles,
so that treaty is null,
Because forever begins today

I cut my ego down like a pine tree,
Destroyed and burned the old me,
Now I rise; the seedling of a vine,
Too fluid to be defined,
Strong, but flexible like the reed,
Forever begins today...
