Heaven
I cannot sleep on a night like this
When the air is right, and nothing seems amiss
The sky is cloudless, the moon looks new
The earth stirs, fragrant with dew
The distant songs of the pilgrims, gutter
In the wind, shiver
As they prepare to meet the one
Who was once a rebel, a stepson
'Stones and thorns turn soft under our feet
As your name we repeat'
The road subsides, the dogs lie down
As buildings turn in, shut down
I sit dreaming of the day when
Wherever I am, I am in heaven
Not forever standing outside, looking in
