  I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I loved this poem. It was one of the first ones I started to translate into Russian in September 2007. Here is my translation (though I may have already posted it in earlier) :

I also remember this poem from my youth, Deva. It is still a favorite. Captures Spring wonderfully.

Am I right in saying that this poem was written by WW from an account his sister Dorothy gave him when she returned from a walk. We have yet to learn that the countryside is our natural habitat. An experiment has found that the heart beats slower in green surroundings.

I picture my mother reciting this with such love for Wordsworthing art... My first encounter with an English poem!
  Noel Bayron  (3/12/2009 5:57:00 AM)

My teacher in English Literature was on my mind everytime I read this poem. I got 'A' for interpreting this poem.
  Isaac Lyman  (2/25/2009 2:10:00 PM)

I memorized this poem. It is the cornerstone of modern romantic poetry, and is ingeniously constructed. Every type of rhyme, very nice meter, nice message. I can't find any flaws in this poem - definitely worthy of a hall of fame somewhere.
  Laksita Ayodya  (2/13/2009 10:45:00 PM)

Very memorable poem for me. I had used this poem to do my poetry analysis assignment in college. This poem shows the beauty and peace of nature.. To feel n absorb this poetry word by word can create a peaceful n freedom feeling inside me... ^_^

We tackled this poem in high school. I can still imagine how we enjoy paraphrasing it. I still remember our poster when our teacher requested us to draw what imagery is described in the poem. At the end of our activities, I learned that this poem encourages us to appreciate the beauty of nature and that we could find great happiness and contentment with nature.
