    Auden was very prolific so in saying 'In Praise of Limestone' is in the Top 10 poems he wrote should be taken as a real compliment. It conveys so much, so vividly - the landscape, his sexuality, politics, and the genuine feelings for others and their environment. There's also just a touch of the more kindly variety of paternalism here (if somewhat linked to the erotic emotions raised by the boys..)

    And what do we make of those 'underground streams'? Our passions, running deep beneath the surface, largely unexplored..? (Report) Reply
