Living With Abandon - Poem by Masharia kanyari

Today I'll light up a cigarette
To hell with the asthma
I have never smoked in my life
but I'll smoke it like I missed it

I shall then watch a movie
One that I've watched a million times
and I will enjoy it
Listen to a Bob Marley track
And swing my head to the beat
Call up my girlfriend;
tell her that I miss her

I will groom my cat
While basking in the sun
I'll have white coffee with an old friend
And her husband; congratulate them
On her pregnant status
I will smile at the sky and hold my hands to the breeze
Submit my paper dreams to the universe
And tell her 'Take care of these! '
I'll toast a tot of water to the dead
and the yet to die
I shall ask for God's forgiveness
and wisdom from up high

I will have a nice day
I will not think about my boss
who I am bound to see tomorrow
Something I dread about my job
I am going to live in the moment
The minute, this life!
