Louis Honoré Fréchette

(16 November 1839 – 31 May 1908 / Lévis)

À Lucien. Enfant de M. Chs Langelier.

Enfant, sous les langes de toile
Dont s'enveloppe ton sommeil,
Dis-nous, à ton premier réveil,
Le doux mystère qui te voile.

Dis, quelque chérubin vermeil
T'a-t-il apporté dans son voile ?
Es-tu le reflet d'une étoile ?
N'es-tu qu'un rayon de soleil ?

Et le petit que l'on adore,
De son regard que le ciel dore,
De son regard tendre et vainqueur,

Répond : ― Je suis l'être éphémère
Né du sourire de ma mère
Reflété dans un noble cœur.
