Magnolia


Dit is de tak met de bloem alleen
de andre bomen gaan al moe
en zwaar van loof naar de aarde toe.

Dit is de tak die ten hemel biedt
In zuivre kelken van albast
de witte wijn uit de donkere bast
zó teerheid die uit droefnis wast.

Hoe zal ik nobler gedenken U
hoog-tere ziel sterk maar sereen
dan bij deze mystieke brank
de tak met de bloem alleen.

Dat is de devote magnolia
voorzichtig in uw handen geleid
van koninklijke tulpeboom
de prinselijke tederheid.
