Reflective - Poem by Paul Cranley

Far from shore it wants not to be known,
Coaxed by those around it,
Shaped by forces known and unknown,
building, building but lacking intent,
timidly curl and crash against the shore,
suffering ignominy it ruefully retreats

Contemplating mistakes, swirling Indian,
Longing for another chance, undercurrent,
Feeding frenzy, balls of bait, coral garden,
A wave well travelled back for redemption,
Building patiently from afar,
Eradicating mistakes of failed attempt,
Hardly seen below the surface,
Intent, building, building, crashing!
Inexorably against the shore
