Role Model

I was talking to my cat one day
Yes I realize it is quite strange
But in the middle of our obviously
One-sided conversation
I stopped and stared at the mammal
With sheer concentration
And then it hit me
Now I know who I'd like to be
And I said "Stardust"
~that's my cat if you never knew~
"Stardust, when I grow up
I wanna be just like you"
And she just sat there
And made no sound
No simple mew or loud meow
No, all I heard was the silent purr
Though it was somewhat louder I had found
And we just sat there
Quiet as day
"Just like a cat" I heard myself say
To be like her would bring no shame
If someone asked me why this was so
I'd tell them simply "Well simple's the way to go"
If you live your life as any cat might
You might find yourself or better yet
See the world in a string of lights
And to live in peace
With nothing in mind
But faith and instinct
Well for me, all would be right
So that is why I'd like to be
Like a cat so to speak
A cat with eyes that save the day
A cat like mine
She is no slave
To me or you
Or anyone who
Lives and breathes
Or does absolutely anything
She is mine but she is free
She is alive but I'm still me
Yes that won't change
But I'll still be
Just like her, like a cat
Now with all I've said
And all you've heard
Wouldn't you like to be
Just like that?
