Plague Rose

The Phoenix And Her Children

O how it amazes me
The way that birds
Can defy gravity
Yes man can fly
With the help of
Technology
But only a bird
Can do so
So peacefully
Cats can jump
So high in the sky
And insects with time
Can burst into flight
But none I'm afraid
Could even compare
To the majesty
That every feathered
Fiend might share
So look to the sky
And don't fear
What you find
For a bird in its glory
Only compares
To the untouchable light
That surrounds it
With every morning
And into the garden
High upon the stair
The great Phoenix
Is dying
All alone inside her lair
She is burning
Quite painful
For her flames to her
Are like the dreadful winds
Of the arctic cold
But right when you think
That all is lost
And the stories told
Out from the ashes!
And into the fire!
The Lord of birds lives!
We make no funeral pyre
So in the way
That the Phoenix might rise
Her children like her
Shall take to the skies
Though never as bright
And golden as she
The birds are far greater
Than you or me
And thus that is why
They amaze me so
Defying gravity
How far will they go?
Birds to you
May simply be animals
But they have wings
And you don't
You say you are smarter
But you are wrong
A bird's knowledge
Is simply instinct
But there is one fact
You might have to rethink
Birds are holy
In such a way
So simple and fragile
With nothing to say
Their songs are like those
We might find in our souls
And even the buzzards
And ravens and crows
Sing for the sake of someone
Whether young or old
The Phoenix is their master
She guides them day by day
She saves them from disaster
And takes their pain away
The Eagle at her right
And the Owl to her left
The birds above the ocean
See their lives as tests
And pray for the day
They might live within her fire
And Little Robin-Red-Breast
Upon the world shall sire
So heed the wordless
Songs they sing
Close your eyes
With the joy it will bring
And praise the phoenix
Mistress of fire
The birds will guide you
In all that you aspire
