The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

    Never trust a narrator in a Frost poem. And more importantly, never assume it is Frost speaking.

    This narrator admits that there is no difference between the paths. They've been worn about the same and they're both covered in leaves. He later tells people that he took the road less traveled by, which is basically like flipping a coin and when it lands face down, saying I chose 'tails.' It's not about how to choose correctly. It's about how we look back at the choices that we have made.

    Maybe don't follow the herd, be an independent thinker. The path the herd follows can sometimes lead to death. Don't go with the norm, be exceptional and stand out.

    It feels better insane when poets don't explain their lines, more often than not explanation tend to be clue-less or rather manipulated.
