Lesley Diane Sutherland (Chester, England)
There is no point
There's no point in watering the flowers -
Those lilies that you planted 'er you left,
There's no point in smoothing out the bedclothes,
They may as well stay tangled and bereft.
But maybe you are out there thinking too,
And trying to recall my faithful face,
Maybe you are also longing for me,
Wondering who will move into your place.
Yes, you could have tried to get to know me,
You knew I would have met you half the way,
You could have tried just a little harder,
It didn't have to end like this today.
