Tree Poem

the earth is still wet
I just planted a tree
will he grow to be beautiful
or to be more like me?

to the core of it all
I've put blood and my tears
his back carries weight
of my sweat and my fears

I watch him day after day
how his secrets unfold
as the time passes by
he seems distant and cold

he grows tired and old
his good days are long gone
as I kill him I cry
still it has to be done

now the spring has arrived
and I know that it's true
oh how beautiful you were
oh how I long for you
