One Different Holiday Poem
My Dog and I
loaf at the front porch
gazing at the stars
sprinkled on the swarthy blanket,
while neighborhood sleeps.
Furry back straight
and innocent
dear whiff
wet and warm
sniffing my neck.
Down the street
My Dog and I
enjoy the dance of flickering lights
emerging at windows seals and roof tops,
before dying on the pavement
soundless.
My Dog and I
don't talk
but we speak
united in the moment
of celebration.
My Dog and I
with no shopping lists
no cookies with holiday frostings
no trees to decorate
and no hassles in supermarkets.
My Dog and I
celebrate quietly
birth and life
sharing gifts of friendship
and love
with our embraced souls.
