Sreejith Sugathan Poems

The stage was set, on the higher grounds;
Makeup was on, covering the white cells;
Costumes betrayed the ailing panache;
And I entered before your curious eyes;
...

All the way I've travelled, this far;
And when I look back
The road seems to be so narrow
So crowded and filthy
...

The lonely flicker of my candle;
Serene and contented-
Was blown out;
It was the darkness of your eyes
...

I Pretend!

The stage was set, on the higher grounds;
Makeup was on, covering the white cells;
Costumes betrayed the ailing panache;
And I entered before your curious eyes;
With that wryly smile that you anticipated,
From me, I thought I knew, forever.

You guessed right, as you are always;
Yes, am an actor.

I had to, though I didn’t wanted
You wouldn’t accept me for what I am
Though graciously you offered me the choices
To be or not to be; I knew I had only one.
One way to go; one way to live_
Act.

I can hear your patience fading now
From the growls and yawns;
Silence isn’t what you expect, from me.
Though you have been, through out the plays.
You ignored me, the moment I stepped out of the stage.
You pretended, innocently negligent of my being.
Phlegmatic.

I decided; to give up all the deceit.
The make-up; the flamboyant outfits;
And the smile I had held for years.
The huge roar filled my mind with horror.
Behind my closed eyes I can see the faces hastily turning away.
I knew this was the end.

I opened my eyes.
The light from the stage hurt my iris.
Slowly I raised my eyes; into the stage.
I saw you there, in my outfit! ! !
In my make-up! ! !
In the hilarious position, I had been for long! ! !
You were smiling, I believe you were! ! !
I pretend! ! !
