Rain

Born on a mid summer day,
but I loved the clouds more, than the shine.
My earliest memory; Running outdoors,
first dropp on my cheek,
second on my closed eyes,
like tears it flow.
Before I guess where the third would fall,
I'm grabbed by hand and dragged inside.

Is the shower heaven's cry? I wonder,
or God playing?
Why would heaven cry? When,
it's the happiest place.
How could God play? When,
he's busy running the world.

I go to school, hanging from my,
Grandfather's hand, in a heavy downpour.
Frog entrails and an occasional
bird nest, downed from last night's rain.
Puddles and potholes, people jumping over them,
cars splashing muddy water onto them.
Those were all, a feast for my young eyes.

Shifted home; Yet when rain came,
it's the same. Now while commuting to school,
in a bus, the misty glass becomes my canvas.
To pour out my imagination.
In a gloomy afternoon science class;
When water-cycle is taught, my mind is caught,
in thought. I see the darkened sky,
cut through, by a streak of lightning and,
a roll of thunder.

As I grew, my bond grew strong,
out of school, I miss my friends, but,
not my oldest friend.
Still hand-in-hand, but hands have changed,
I walk in rain,
I walk the path of life, not alone.

When my children play in rain,
I drag them inside and dry their heads.
Ignoring defiant looks,
looks I made years ago. I see myself,
in their eyes; How life change!
But not my oldest friend.

When I lie in bed, by the window,
awaiting the call. It's raining hard.
Each dropp beat down on the earth hard,
as if mocking me, with all that youthful vigour,
which I've lost to time.
Still there's a rhythm, a music in it,
music that could nourish my dried soul.
Everything seems distant, sound and vision,
blurs. If rain comes from heaven, I hope,
I would meet my friend there, soon...
