Aged and gnarled with their branches reaching high
Ever stretching towards the warmth of the sun.
They hold the essence of a hundred years and more

The way you looked at me ….. lovingly
And touched me ….. tenderly
And spoke to me ….. softly
All lies!

Just a touch ….. the promise of a touch
Just a certain kind of look
Just a way of saying something
A gentle aside, a soft glance…..
...

We are destined to be together
All the years that have past
While we’ve been apart
Are nothing but life lessons
...

Turning a blind eye, pretending not to see the signs
That would be so blatantly obvious if it were not that I don’t want to see
All the time holding on to sweet memories that cast
A veil of disbelief over the blatant truth that is

You have that way of coaxing from me
All you want to know
You charm, flatter and make me feel safe
And the words from me just flow

The beast stumbles
Knees buckle and as it gasps
The buzz of a chainsaw fills the night air with
Raucous screech and birds desert their roost
