Background Poem by Tiernan Booth

Background

As a child I wanted to take all of the darkness,
Take it out of our hearts take it out of the world.
I wanted to replace the sun,
Because the one that we have is getting to old!
It doesn't shine nearly as bright as it used to,
Would you tell me if there was something to do?
We're all afraid of the dark can't you see!
If it scares everybody, then why must it be!
If the ache in our hearts is to painful to bare,
Then why in the world was it even put there!
Life's like the sky,
It's as equally dark as is light!
When the day comes along we all wish it was night,
So we can dream of a place that's just drowning in light!
But this place it exists in our minds,
It exists when the world is is enveloped in a blanket that keeps the light out,
It makes children cry, It makes some people wonder why?
Why do I sleep? Because when I awake it will once again be day!
It's a cycle like how the planets spin!
Like how one word can reach to the farthest lands,
But the words not the same when it comes back again!
Lookup at the sky, tell me what you can see!
If it's day you see clouds and the beautiful sun,
If it's night.. You can see stars…
Distant planets that burn brighter than our very own sun,
They remain there even during the day,
But unlike the sun,
For the night they still stay!
When the whole world is bright it can be blinding,
People get burnt so they run inside hiding!
But when the background is dark like it is in the night,
You don't have to search with all of your might,
You can see the good from the bad,
You know what makes you smile, what makes you sad!
