Not Because I Was Sad Poem by Tiernan Booth

Not Because I Was Sad

Rating: 5.0

He didn't want to stay so he just ran away,
What we did not know is that's not what he meant,
when he said that he wasn't okay.
That's not what he meant,
When he said that he was afraid.
He had more intentions with the razor blade,
Intentions he would never say.
So far away from life he strayed.
The nameless child I knew one day.
And it's not because he was sad.
Its because his depression took over his life,
It didn't make him want to cry,
Listen! It made him want to die.
They said just forget it, it's no big deal,
They said it's not even real!
But the self inflicted bumps and bruises,
Tell me against this ¨Sadness¨ He's losing!
His life is unbearable, face is un-stareable, soul is unscareable,
He shot at the Cop, with a loud, BANG, BANG!
And the Cop shot back with another BANG, BANG!
As he lay in that snow and the side of the road, and we got the call the next day!
And it's not because he was sad!
He became one of the 800,000 that kill themselves yearly because of depression.
Now it's december, year 2016.
I took the knife from the kitchen this morning.
Hopefully no one noticed the warnings,
Im done!

I held the knife to my arm,
Just like the other times I caused myself harm.
Today I was one out of 54,794 that attempt suicide in the course of a day.
And it's not because I was sad!
Its because my depression had taken over my life,
It didn't make me want to cry!
LISTEN! It made me want to die!
Take a picture, thats all thats left, of the nameless child,
The child that's dead.
I once had a friend who told me depression doesn't exist,
She said that it's just severe sadness,
So I went on a rant about how depression feels,
And how depression is real.
I proceeded to show her the fading scars on my wrists,
I explained to her, ¨This! Is not because I was sad.¨
