In The Deep End

I walk to the board
Thinking about the dive
Playing it out in my mind
I adjust the spring wheel to the right number
The right tension
I walk to the end of the board
Feel the board with my toes
Hold the right position
Wait for the referee’s whistle
I rock the board
Holding my balance
And then jump up and away
Spin one and a half times
Holding my knees close to my chest
And then unfolding
Straightening my body
Grasping my hands
Piercing the water
With as little splash as
Possible.
