A Fool's Mistake

'Don't cut yourself on
The pieces of my
Broken heart, '
She said.
'Just go,
Turn out the light,
And leave me
In the dark.'
I looked into her
Eyes that night and
All I saw was pain.
The sight too much
For me to bear,
I turned
And shut the door again.
Sadly,
These were
The last few steps
She ever saw me take,
For when I saw her
On the floor,
I knew I'd made
A fool's mistake.
