What arrogance abounds in one
who seems so ill prepared for Xanadu?
Which mighty principle is laid aside
that I succeed where others only fail?
Ambition, of untimely worth
Undoes the best intention
And my life is now before me
in tatters and in rags;
Yet still, I yearn to wear
The Monarch's crown
By God, I'll not be beaten by
The Legions of Misfortune
For every downward slope implies
a hill to climb and conquer.
No mortal man nor woman yet
Shall hurt or do me ill.
For as much as I am able,
I am the master of mine own determination
So, damn life, here I stand, defiant
