Andrew Peterkin Poems

I would have been a king.

A ruler of things I see.
...

Was this ever real?
Were these emotions ever true?
As I sold myself for you.
A token of our commitment.
...

I wrote you this lullaby.
As I put you to sleep.
To sleep is death.
So I will lay you down.

I Would Have Been A King

I would have been a king.

A ruler of things I see.

But I've chosen a different route.

A place where I love to be.

I'll tell you where I could have been.

If I said I will now rule.

See now I see it is not cool,

To just be another tool.

I used to bend the rules.

Want everything in my favor.

So delectable wicked bliss,

Was something I would savour.

See being King comes in many forms,

And many different layers.

Like a cookie or an ice cream shop.

Delight in many flavors.

As I was King I noticed true,

That my rule was not my own.

Like my kingdom seat, I did not sit.

Just a puppet near a throne.

Every move I made, every step I took.

Was really not my own.

Like honey may have sounded sweet,

But could find no honey comb.

So as I roamed among these streets.

A kingdom I foreknew.

The people rose against me quick.

And nothing I could do.

They strung me up and laughed at me.

To the point I felt so ill.

When a voice among the reeds I heard.

Said Son peace is my will.

He whispered and said release your throne.

It truly is no good.

So on that day I gave up this place.

Of tangled rotten wood.

And then He said release this man.

My life I give my own.

He took my place and died that day.

But I was not left alone.

As i walked from the kingdom repented of.

They soon just followed me.

But their hands would never touch me though.

For all the evil they wished to be.

They were afraid of the King they crushed.

As I walked a place round here.

In the distance shown ever bright.

Beside the sun this city clear.

Like the noon sky this Kingdom Bright.

My eyes just shed a tear.

Enemies in haste they screamed out please.

We fear the light we fear.

For the man we hung upon that wood.

His life He kept with He.

For on the third He rose again.

And roams His kingdom streets.

He comes to call among the dead.

The ones who say His name.

So every man who once shamed himself.

Is never quite the same.

As I came close I heard this man.

And soon I entered in.

A beauty I beheld that day.

True glory from within.

But for you to know the wonders there.

I tell you now my friend.

Let go of your small kingdom home.

And rule with a Ruler,

There is no end
