Not So Friendly Persuasion

Little Sammy’s birthday clock
Would not make the sound “tick-tock.”
Instead it made the noise “tick-tack.”
Angry Sammy took it back.

The merchant who had made the clock
Was German, and a wise clock-doc.
In just a wink the noise was nixed,
Which pleased Sam that his clock was fixed.

Still Sam could not help but ask
How the merchant did the task.
“Dat’s my secret, ” said the Doc,
“We have our ways to make dem ‘tock’! ”
