Light As A Feather

A squirrel climbed my peach tree to steal a peach.
I went over to chase him away.
He didn't run. He stayed and let me pet him.
How very strange.

I offered the squirrel a peach with a flaw.
He took a cookie instead.
Then he walked over to the camphor tree,
and sat there, snacking, watching me.

I went into the house, thinking,
'I've been practicing love and peace.'
(I can't say it has been easy.)
'Now wild animals are unafraid of me.
Does that mean that it is working? '
